Colormap is based on the colors used by W. F. Haxby's Gravity field of World's oceans, 1985, developed for geoid and gravity maps. The version used here is formed from a linear interpolation of the GMT color table used by MB-System by David W. Caress and Dale N. Chayes (http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/MB-System).

GRDWRITE2(X,Y,Z,'file.grd') will create a grid file containing the data in the matrix Z. X and Y should be either vectors with dimensions that match the size of Z or two-component vectors containing the max and min values for each. The file will...

IMSHADE will plot a matrix representing topography as a 3-component color image, with intensity proportional to the magnitude of the topographic slope of each pixel. Optionally, it can take an argument for lighting angle to use the directional...

GRDINFO2('file.grd') will display information about the GMT grid file 'file.grd' in a format similar to the gmt command grdinfo.

D = GRDINFO('file.grd') will in addition return a vector containing (xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax, zmin, zmax,...

Z=GRDREAD2('filename.grd') will return the data as a matrix in Z

[X,Y,Z]=GRDREAD2('filename.grd') will also return X and Y vectors suitable for use in Matlab commands such as IMAGE or CONTOUR.
e.g., imagesc(X,Y,Z); axis xy
